reading about education and media
when i was reading through my assigned reading, i was reminded of parker palmer’s illustrations of how people teach and learn:
1. (myth) teacher sharing information passed on to students – education as one-way street
2. “teacher” and students all teaching and learning from each other – education as a crazy image of connection surrounding the information to be learned/shared
and i began to think how media really highlights just how much we are connected when learning. for example, facebook. i learn about others’ lives (yay newsfeed) while others learn about mine. but even more so, i get to comment like crazy about anything that interests me just like others can.
education ceases to be the expert teaching those who need to learn when we are able to fully engage with others who can share their unique perspectives and experiences
